The word for today is fog. We saw it almost all day long. When we got up at our regular time, it
was so foggy we could hardly see anything. We sat in our slip watching the weather trying to figure out
whether we should try to go or not.
We sat until about 10:30 when it was pretty clear. We left the slip and pulled around to the
face dock to pumpout so we could get started north. By the time we had finished (about 10 minutes later), the
fog had covered us again. We
weren’t sure what to do. We sat
out there and waited and waited and waited.
While we were waiting, we watched
these cute little birds that had landed on the dock. They looked like they were arguing with each other for the longest
time.
Earlier I had taken a picture of one of those little birds that appeared to be balancing
on a high wire.
After over an hour had passed, the weather seemed clear north
of us. We decided to go for it and
started off. By the time we got to
the first bridge, the fog had come in again.
The fog continued to come and go for the
rest of the trip. Sometimes we
could see miles ahead and other times we could see only 200 yards ahead. I was so busy watching out for boats in
all that mess that I only took a few pictures. Most of what we saw today was FOG.
One picture I was able to take was of the
Bay Shore Bridge. There were two
bridges VERY close together. From
our vantage point they looked like a single bridge. The first bridge is 30 feet tall and the one immediately
behind it is 60 feet tall. It
looks neat doesn’t it?
All in all, I think we made the right decision to travel today. We stopped for the night in a small basin
beside the NJ ICW called Bay Head Harbor.
We anchored in front of a sailboat that is going to try to do the ocean
trip tomorrow too. The man said
that they are going to go to Liberty Park on Friday. We’re going to try to get there tomorrow unless there is
F-O-G.
We traveled 40 miles today in 5 hours 51
minutes. Our total miles traveled
are 1271 miles.
